I've not gone through every route, but there was this sense of "Is the MC self aware?" as I played through Monikas 1st story. Monikas Before Story: The name is misleading as it's not only about Monika, but rather alters the entire story to where the MC is the club president, Monika is the "childhood friend", Sayori is the girl the MC tutors in math while Natsuki and Yuri don't really change all that much.
However, to achieve the "true ending" you must prove that "happiness can be found here". You first meet Monika in her "space room" where she reluctantly agrees to help you "save one of them". Unlike other mods I've played this one has it's own messages to discover through the story. The Purist Mod: Long story with an amazing "true ending" that fits well with the unmodified DDLC. Monika is still very much "self aware", but the story explains why a particular change was made. It adds the festival event and gives the characters endings. True Literature Club: Short story with a unique angle. Mods I highly suggest are listed below with possible spoilers blocked out.
